FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 14, 2001 – Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), a recognized leader in human capital management, announced today the appointment of Douglas P. Cormany as vice president & chief information officer, effective immediately. Mr. Cormany will report to the Company’s chief financial officer, Roy Krause, and along with management will be responsible for identifying areas of improvement in Spherion’s systems to meet the changing technology needs of the Company’s customers and industry. He will also be responsible for managing, planning and developing Spherion’s worldwide technology infrastructure. Mr. Cormany replaces former chief information officer Bob Evans, who has left the Company.

Most recently, Mr. Cormany served as vice president and chief information officer for NationsRent, Inc. (NYSE:NRI), one of the country’s leading construction equipment rental companies. During his tenure, he oversaw the migration of 63 acquisitions and the development of a short-term and long-term business and technology strategy plan to meet the organization’s strategic plan. Mr. Cormany implemented technology to reduce the company’s inventory and distribution costs, while increasing sales, gross profit margins and shareholder value.
Prior to NationsRent, Mr. Cormany acted as Chief Information Officer for AOL TimeWarner’s Book-of-the-Month Club, Inc., where he was responsible for updating the company’s technology infrastructure. As vice president of Information Systems with Fred Meyer, Inc. he was a member of the team accountable for successfully supporting Fred Meyer’s fast growth from a $2.7 billion to a $15 billion organization. As general manager with Walt Disney Attractions Inc., Mr. Cormany aligned technology resources with the Company’s business needs and improved efficiencies in the areas of system quality and services.
