FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 8, 2002 – Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), a recruitment, technology and outsourcing services provider, today announced the appointment of Peter D. Houchin as vice president, corporate finance and treasury. Houchin will report to Roy Krause, the Company’s chief financial officer, and will be responsible for capital planning, treasury and financial support of key initiatives related to managing shareholder value.

“This appointment is yet another example of Spherion’s emphasis on attracting experienced talent to assist in the execution of our business transformation strategy,” commented Roy Krause. Additionally, Peter will be responsible for risk management, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and will be responsible for the implementation of metrics to insure appropriate investment returns on all capital expenditures.

Houchin brings 30 years experience as a financial executive to Spherion. He has previously served as chief financial officer at W. R. Grace & Co., vice president of treasury at PepsiCo. Inc.  and vice president and treasurer of Kraft Inc. He received an MBA from Cranfield School of Management in  .
