Spherion Corporation Advances Plan to Broaden Outsourcing Business; New Executive Appointments in Sales, Marketing & Technology

Ft. Lauderdale, FL—April 25, 2002—Spherion Corporation (NYSE: SFN), a recruitment, outsourcing and technology services provider, today announced the creation of four new positions in support of the Company’s outsourcing growth strategy.

Larry Kihlstadius is appointed vice president of the Employment Process Solutions business of Spherion Outsourcing Group. Kihlstadius will be responsible for strategy development and for executing the sales and operational direction for the Employment Process Solution business within the Spherion Outsourcing Group. Kihlstadius brings 20 years of experience in sales, human resources and operations environments. He joins Spherion from TMP Worldwide® where he was executive vice president responsible for operations and sales in the Southeast. While at TMP, he successfully transitioned the business unit to a new organizational model while achieving profitability within only six months. He also held management positions at various companies including Staffmark® and Randstad Staffing®. Kihlstadius is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy , where he earned a bachelor of science degree. He also is certified in Six Sigma facilitation from the Juran Institute.

 

Jack Lane
is appointed senior vice president of the Administrative Services business of Spherion Outsourcing Group. Lane will be responsible for strategy development and for executing the sales and operational direction for the Administrative Services business within the Spherion Outsourcing Group. Lane brings over 25 years of experience in technology and professional services industries and a deep understanding of the outsourcing services industry. He joins Spherion from Transchannel®, a PeopleSoft® services provider, where he was vice president of sales and marketing. Lane developed a business model that allowed Transchannel to experience over 200% growth in 2001 compared to 2000. He also held management positions at various companies including Accenture® and IBM®. Lane received a bachelor of science degree from San Diego State University .

 

Bonnie S. Tichman is appointed director of marketing of Spherion Outsourcing Group. Tichman brings 15 years of experience in the human resources and outsourcing industry as a marketing and sales executive, management consultant and practitioner. Tichman will be responsible for overall marketing programs related to Spherion Outsourcing Group's services and technology solutions. She joins Spherion from ADP Employer Services where she was director of human resources marketing for its National Accounts Division. Tichman successfully launched the industry’s first integrated Web-based HR outsourcing, co-sourcing and services platform. She also held management positions at various companies including Accenture® and Ceridian®.Tichman received a master’s degree in business administration from Mercer University and a bachelor of arts from Queens College of the City University of New York.

 

Michael L. Whitmer is appointed director of Technology of Spherion Outsourcing Group. Whitmer brings 14 years of experience in the technology and telecommunications industry. He will be responsible for developing the strategy to strengthen the technology infrastructure for Spherion Outsourcing Group. Whitmer joins Spherion from Witness Systems, where as director of Technology Strategy he was responsible for driving strategic partnerships, growth opportunities and technology integration efforts. Whitmer successfully re-designed two versions of Witness’ flagship software suite “eQuality™” and developed an award-winning web self-service recording application “E-quality™ Discover” used in call center environments. He also held management positions at various companies including Turner Broadcasting System®, MCI Telecommunications® and AT&T®. Whitmer received a bachelor of science from West Georgia College and attended the telecommunications management program at the University of Colorado .
