Spherion Corporation announced the findings of its 2003 Emerging Workforce® Study that was conducted in conjunction with Harris Interactive. It is the third in a series designed to provide a comprehensive look at changes in the American workforce in the context of ongoing social and economic events.
The Study reveals that employees are shifting career and lifestyle priorities, which is forcing employers to reassess existing policies and procedures. It identified three different types of employees: emergent, traditional and migrating.
Emergent WorkersSM embrace change and take their own initiative for their careers whereas traditional workers look for their employer to assist them with developing their careers. The number of Emergent Workers is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years. Employers not keeping pace with changing employee attitudes could face disastrous consequences as they continue their efforts to retain and attract employees.
