Results from the Ohio Employment Report:
Nearly half (46%) of workers believe the economy is getting weaker, increasing 12 percentage points from February.
The percentage of workers reporting confidence in the future of their current employer decreased from 62 percent in February to 51 percent in March.
35 percent of workers reported that they are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months; compared to 37 percent in the previous month.
“The slight drop in overall confidence in not completely unexpected with the recent news about rising gas prices, housing worries and stock market turbulence making headlines,” said Robert Schulte, Spherion franchise owner in Ohio. “With healthy U.S. job creation reported earlier this month, I am anxious to see how workers react. Despite a slump in worker confidence, there are plenty of job opportunities for skilled workers. Employers continue to seek our assistance to fill job openings for skilled manufacturing positions that involve technical skills. Once these individuals are hired, more employers are offering competitive wages and on-the-job training to retain them, as well.”
