Results from the Illinois Employment Report:
- 48 percent of workers believe that the economy is getting weaker in April, a 19-percentage-point increase from the previous month.
- Forty-seven percent of workers believe that there are fewer jobs available, an increase of 20 percentage points from March.
- More workers are not confident in their ability to find a new job. Twenty-three percent of workers are not confident in their ability to find a new job, an 18-percentage-point increase from the previous month.
“The state’s Confidence Index did take a hit last month, due to workers’ concerns about the economy and job availability. The job market in Illinois has slowed a bit, so workers’ concerns are understandable,” explained Michael Ruter, managing director of Spherion Professional Services in Chicago. “For the most part, hiring has remained relatively flat with no signs of an increase or a large pullback. With manufacturing down and inflation fears on the rise, at this time employees may be taking a ‘wait and see’ approach to the job market.”
