CHICAGO, Ill., January 23, 2009 – The Illinois Employee Confidence Index increased 2.6 points to 38.0 in December, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of Illinois workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), reveals that more workers are confident in their ability to find a new job and in the future of their current employer.
Results from the Illinois Employment Report:
- Forty-one percent of workers are confident in their ability to find a new job, an increase of 12 percentage points from November.
- More workers (63 percent) are confident in the future of their current employer, a 12-percentage-point increase from the previous month.
- Seventy-three percent of workers believe that they are unlikely to lose their job, an increase of seven percentage points from November.
“Although we experienced a slight increase in employee confidence in December, the state’s unemployment rate still mirrors the trends of the national economy,” explained Jodie Wood, regional director of Spherion Staffing Services in Illinois. “There is still conversation around an economic stimulus plan from the state that will include an investment in infrastructure, which will ultimately lead to creating jobs. The good news from our report shows that workers have a renewed sense of confidence in finding a job and the majority of workers surveyed believe that they are not likely to lose their jobs in the next 12 months.”
