COLUMBUS, Ohio, January 23, 2009 — Although negative job growth continues to be seen across the state, the Ohio Employee Confidence Index continued its upward trend in December, increasing 2.6 points to 40.8, according to the latest Spherion
Results from the Ohio Employment Report:
- Sixty-three percent of workers say they are unlikely to look for new jobs in the next 12 months, an increase of 11 percentage points from November.
- Nearly four in ten workers (39 percent) are confident in their ability to find a new job, representing a nine percentage point increase from the previous month.
- More workers are confident in the future of their current employer. Specifically, 73 percent of workers are optimistic, up 10 percentage points from November.
“We are pleasantly surprised to see the continued upward movement of the Ohio Employee Confidence Index,” said Robert Schulte, Spherion franchise owner in Ohio. “Although the state has been hit hard by job losses in some of the state’s largest industries such as construction and manufacturing, our latest Employment Report suggests that workers in Ohio have embraced a sense of optimism towards their personal employment situations. With Ohio workers’ confidence toward the future of their current employer on the rise, this scenario presents an opportunity for companies looking to further engage their workforce and continue to boost employee morale as we head into 2009. When the health of economy begins to turn around, workers who have been motivated and engaged will ultimately be those that are retained.”
