CHICAGO, Ill., March 11, 2009 – The Illinois Employee Confidence Index increased 2.6 points to 40.6 in January, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of Illinois workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), indicates that more workers feel that they are unlikely to lose their jobs, and more feel confident in the future of their current employer as well.
Results from the Illinois Employment Report:
- Eighty-three percent of workers say they are unlikely to lose their jobs in the next year, an increase of 10 percentage points from December.
- More workers (68 percent) are confident in the future of their current employer, a five-percentage-point increase from the previous month.
- Only 29 percent of workers were confident in their ability to find a new job, a decrease of 12 percentage points from December.
“Illinois is keeping pace with the nation as far as the unemployment rate and national jobs picture is concerned, but surprisingly our national report indicated an increase of overall employee confidence,” explained Jodie Wood, regional director of Spherion Staffing Services in Illinois. “There is really no clear cut reason why the state’s employee confidence has increased month over month, except for the fact that there is a renewed sense of optimism stemming from the new administration and economic stimulus package which we are hoping will create the jobs needed to jump start our market.”
