DALLAS, Texas, April 17, 2009 – The Texas Employee Confidence Index remained virtually unchanged in March, rising 0.6 points to 44.7, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of Texas workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation, indicates that as more workers report confidence in the future of their current employers and in their ability to find a new job, fewer workers are optimistic about the number of jobs available.
Results from the Texas Employment Report:
- Only five percent of workers believe more jobs are available, decreasing three percentage points from February.
- Sixty-eight percent of Texas workers are confident in the future of their employers, compared to 61 percent in the previous month.
- Half of Texas workers surveyed are confident in their ability to find a new job. Specifically, 50 percent versus 44 percent in February.
“While Texas is faring better than the nation as a whole, we are still feeling the effects of the economic slowdown, although on a much milder level,” said Kim Lockhart, regional vice president for Spherion in Texas. “Many employers are focused on keeping current staff levels, but there are pockets of opportunities out there. Job seekers need to search a little harder to uncover them and present a clear and compelling reason why they can add immediate value to companies. Candidates are going to have to continue to compete against larger numbers of job seekers for fewer openings. It is definitely an employer’s market.”
