LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 17, 2009 –The California Employee Confidence Index dropped 3.1 points to 46.1 in June, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of California workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), reveals that more workers believe there are fewer jobs available and fewer workers are confident in their ability to find a new job.
Results from the California Employment Report:
· Fewer workers reported that they are confident in their ability to find a new job. Specifically 43 percent versus 49 percent in May.
· More than half (56 percent) of workers believe it is not likely they will lose their jobs, a decrease of nine percentage points from the previous month.
· Seventy-eight percent of workers believe there are fewer jobs available compared to 69 percent in May.
“We aren’t surprised by the drop in overall confidence in June’s report, as ongoing fluctuation in our Index is highly probable in the months to come,” explained Joan Van Donge, region vice president for Spherion. “Our California confidence levels remain on par with what we are seeing with the state’s unemployment landscape. However, it is important to note that June’s dip in overall confidence can be attributed primarily to worker’s concerns about the economy and job market, while their personal confidence levels experienced a fractional decline.”
