FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 17, 2009 – The Florida Employee Confidence Index fell 5.6 points to 37.8 in June, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of Florida workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation, uncovers a drop in overall confidence due to more workers believing that the economy is getting weaker and a higher percentage of workers indicating that they are not confident in their ability to find a job. Despite this news, more Florida workers are likely to look for a new job in the next year.
Results from the Florida Employment Report:
- Sixty-one percent of workers believe the economy is getting weaker, increasing 18 percentage points from May.
- Forty-one percent of Florida workers are not confident in their ability to find a new job, increasing 12 percentage points from the previous month.
- More workers are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months. Specifically, 42 percent indicated a likelihood to do so compared to 34 percent in May.
“After three consecutive months of increases, our Florida Employee Confidence Index dropped as concerns over the economy and their personal employment situation rose,” said Paula Franco, branch manager for Spherion Staffing Services in Florida. “Although we would have liked to see this trend continue, the decrease is not surprising given recent conflicting economic reports. As companies continuing to navigate cautiously through the current economic landscape, we are still seeing apprehension about adding staff. However, our Report indicates that a growing number of workers are likely to job search in the next 12 months. With over forty percent of workers in the process of mapping out their next career move, retention efforts should not be pushed aside.”
