COLUMBUS, Ohio, October 18, 2009 — The Ohio Employee Confidence Index increased by 1.3 points to 48.5 in September, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), reports that, despite the fact that more workers lack confidence in their ability to find a new job, more also believe that the number of jobs available has increased.
Results from the Ohio Employment Report:
- Eleven percent of workers believe more jobs are available, an increase of eight percentage points from August.
- More workers, 26 percent, are not confident in their ability to find a new job, a five-percentage-point increase from the previous month.
- Fifty-eight percent of workers feel that they are unlikely to lose their job, a decrease of 13 percentage points from August.
“It refreshing to see that the Confidence Index is ticking back up,” said Robert Schulte, Spherion franchise owner in Ohio. “The numbers in this month’s report regarding job availability is a contrast from last month’s, but not surprising considering that the national jobs picture is still in question. Now that the economy seems to be stabilizing, we hope to see some growth once the economy begins to expand.”
