New York Employment Report: Employee Confidence Increases; Workers’ Jobs Outlook Brightens

NEW YORK, N.Y., December 17, 2009 – The New York Employee Confidence Index increased 6.3 points to 53.2 in November, according to the latest Spherion^® Employment Report. The monthly survey of New York workers, conducted by Harris Interactive^® on behalf of Spherion Corporation, found workers’ outlook regarding job availability and the economy were more positive than the previous month.

Results from the New York Employment Report:

Twenty-nine percent of workers believe the economy is getting stronger, a 10-percentage-point increase from October.
More workers, 41 percent, are confident in their ability to find a new job, an increase of six percentage points from the previous month.
Workers are feeling encouraged about their current employer’s future, with 72 percent stating so in November, an increase of eight percentage points from last month.

“With the national employment numbers showing signs of improvement, workers in New York are definitely feeling encouraged about job opportunities and the continued economic recovery,” said Linda Perneau, vice president and general manager of Spherion Staffing Services. “Despite our state report’s positive signs of increased employee confidence and brighter job outlook, we still saw 21 percent reporting concern over losing their job – a sign that some companies and industries are still struggling a bit more than others.”
