DALLAS, Texas, December 18, 2009 – The Texas Employee Confidence Index jumped 3.2 points to 54.5 in November, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of Texas workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation, indicates that more workers are optimistic about the strength of the economy and fewer workers believe there are fewer jobs available—both signs of increasing confidence.
Results from the Texas Employment Report:
- More workers believe the economy is getting stronger, with nearly one-third (31 percent) reporting that they believe so. This represents a 10 percentage-point increase from October.
- More than half (52 percent) of workers believe there are fewer jobs available, representing a nine percentage point decrease from the previous month.
- Fewer workers are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months, with slightly more than a quarter (28 percent) reporting a likelihood of doing so. This is a seven percentage point decrease from October.
“It is highly encouraging to see our Employee Confidence Index approach its highest level since March 2008,” said Kim Lockhart, regional vice president for Spherion in Texas. “Although Texas seems to fare better than most of the country, we are in no means out of the woods yet. Workers and employers alike are going to have to see sustainable good news to keep this momentum going. Employers are still in a wait-and-see approach, however, we are starting to have conversations about gearing up for the eventual turnaround.”
