LOS ANGELES, Calif., January 22, 2010 –The California Employee Confidence Index rose for the second consecutive month, increasing 3.4 points to 52.0 in December, according to the latest Spherion® Employment Report. The monthly survey of California workers, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN), reveals that more workers are optimistic about the strength of the economy and feel secure within their current positions. Amid this overall increase in confidence, half of workers are reporting that they are not likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months.
Results from the California Employment Report:
- More workers believe the economy is getting stronger. Specifically, 32 percent versus 23 percent in November.
- Sixty-six percent of workers believe it is not likely they will lose their jobs in December, an increase of 11 percentage points from the previous month.
- In December, fewer workers (33 percent) are likely to look for a new job, showing a decrease of 16 percentage points from November.
“As our Employee Confidence Index edges up in December, we are seeing more workers report confidence in both the overall economic landscape and in their own personal employment situations,” explained Brian Veverka, district director for Spherion. “Workers also indicated that they are less likely to look for a new job - the fewest amount since February 2009 . While we are hopeful that our Index will continue on an upward incline, workers are closely, monitoring the national employment report and economic indicators in hopes of an economic turnaround.”
